Convention 2019: An International Affair

Convention guests from Mexico and Ghana together in 2013.

By Carl Stagner

In 2015, the General Assembly passed a resolution directing the Church of God Convention to “encourage broad participation” by the Church of God around the world every fourth year. The first of these gatherings with an international emphasis is Convention 2019 in Orlando, Florida, June 27–30 (www.chogconvention.org). With Church of God speakers from outside the United States and Canada, approximately 170 international registrants to date, and a variety of missions conferences and events, Convention 2019 and General Assembly is gearing up to be one of the most international experiences of the Church of God in North America. Doris Dale: A Tribute to An International Leader

Doris Dale, Global Gathering 2013.

By Bob Edwards

As we read the short obituary of this magnificent woman, we saw a couple of areas that were untouched about Doris Dale, the international leader. This must be mentioned, because her leadership, at both the Women of the Church of God (now the Christian Women Connection) and the Missionary Board of the Church of God (now Global Strategy), was phenomenal. Global Gathering Revitalizes Heart, Refreshes Mission of the Church of God

By Carl Stagner

From the opening to close, the Global Gathering of the Church of God was a tremendous experience of unity and inspiration. Brothers and sisters in Christ from Argentina to Singapore, from Guyana to Thailand, and from France to Zambia, stood together for the cause of Christ to worship, fellowship, and practically address the most pressing needs of a changing world. Representing more than sixty countries and territories in which the Church of God has a presence, these named delegates, as well as thousands of additional guests from here and abroad, assembled in one place to express a common Lord, life, and love. On Saturday, at 4:00 PM, June 4, 1955, Kitty and I were married in Maiden Lane Church of God, Springfield, Ohio. Rev. Dr. Harold W. Boyer officiated. Three weeks later, we sailed for Europe for seven weeks of adventure, one week crossing the Atlantic each way, five weeks by train and bus travel through countries that had suffered much during World War II. Global Gathering to Premiere Global Worship Song

By Mick Gilliam

As I reflected on the nature and potential of the upcoming Global Gathering last year, I saw an opportunity to project a picture of a world united by common mission in Christian faith. In Brent Peterson’s recent book Created to Worship: Becoming Fully Human, there’s an agenda of painting the abundant life as human beings becoming “fully human”—all that we were created to be—high functioning and in conformity with the person of Christ. As a pursuant of the abundant life, this notion really caught my attention. Continue reading

Global Gathering Anticipation Builds in Asia

10.216-Design Proof 4-Global Gathering Update

By Don Armstrong

In most Asian countries, the number of Christians is very low. Across Asia, about 5 percent of the population is Christian. If South Korea and the Philippines were excluded from this number, the percentage would be closer to 2 or 3 percent. It’s no wonder that Asian leaders are excited about a conference that emphasizes the global scope and unity of the Church of God. They love the idea of being a part of something big! Standing Together: Global Gathering Coming June 2013

Logo: Global Gathering 2013

By Doris Dale

A few weeks ago, my pastor made the following comments: “Friendship with God is available to all—open to all. When our story is woven with God’s , we cannot know how far it will go!” Little did I know that when I attended the first World Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, in 1983 that my world was to change and be expanded many times over. Today I share with my eleven grandchildren the fact that there is hardly a place in this wonderful world where I could not go and call a friend. Continue reading
