Andrea Cook, PhD, announced that she will step down as president in June 2020 at the conclusion of her fifteenth year at Warner Pacific University and twelfth year as president. “I’m more passionate about our mission and vision today than ever,” Cook, the seventh president of the university stated. “I have deep conviction that Warner Pacific’s commitment to our communities is prophetic and we are incredibly positioned for the long run. It’s simply time for me to take a break after twelve years as president.” Continue reading

After an extensive and prayerful search, the board of directors of Children of Promise is pleased to announce the selection of Mike and Heather Webb as the next co-directors of Children of Promise, the child sponsorship ministry of the Church of God. As longtime Church of God missionaries to Africa and, most recently, regional coordinators for Global Strategy to Africa, the Webbs possess the heart, cross-cultural ministry experience, and gifts necessary to fill the vacancy left by Paul Maxfield when he retires on September 30. Peace Dale Church of God (Rhode Island) elders in fellowship.

The Church of God in New England consists of ten congregations dispersed between Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. All six states that comprise “New England” consistently are ranked within the top ten of the nation for having the lowest church attendance, thus making this the least-churched area of the country. Yet, the New England Church of God is wanting to turn that around! Continue reading

Earlier this year, Church of God Ministries was invited by Lilly Endowment to apply for a grant to extend the fruitful ministry of CARE—Clergy Advocacy and Resource Effort. The week of Thanksgiving brought with it news that a $500,000 grant has been awarded to carry on the program until at least 2021. No longer an initiative, the program known as CARE has been so well received by the Church of God movement that the goal is to sustain the work indefinitely. CARE 2.0 will bring with it continued engagement of pastors and congregational boards in pastoral retirement assistance and educational debt relief that have become synonymous with the program since it began in early 2016. The cross remains on the Panama City church’s sign!

One hundred fifty-five miles per hour. That’s how powerful Hurricane Michael’s winds were when the Category Four monster made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida, on October 10. Meteorologists are calling the storm the strongest to ever hit the continental United States since Hurricane Andrew of 1992. In its wake, Michael left behind widespread catastrophic damage, leveling homes and businesses, and claiming the lives of at least nineteen, as the search for missing persons continues. The Church of God was not left unscathed; to date, two congregations have reported damage to their church building and their homes. As information continues to be collected by state ministry offices and Church of God Ministries, Church of God congregations across the country are already responding to the imminent and critical needs of funds, supplies, time, and labor. Warner University students safe in their shelter (credit: David Hoag).
By Carl Stagner
UPDATE, Tuesday, September 12: The following report came from Warner University president, David Hoag, this afternoon:
As you may know, over one million Floridians do not have power. Warner University is one of the institutions still without power. We are working with Duke Energy to get that restored as soon as possible. We are canceling classes for the remainder of this week (on campus and online). Pending power being restored, we are planning to resume classes beginning Monday morning and allowing students to return Sunday after 6:00 PM. Students are not permitted to return to campus until power is restored.
Our campus was very fortunate, however we did have damage from the hurricane. Insurance will cover some of the damages, but not all. If you would like to help with a gift towards the restoration of the campus you may make a gift online.
Thank you for your patience as we await more damage reports and a disaster assessment from our churches and area organizations. You can support Church of God Disaster Relief anytime at give.jesusisthesubject.org/disasterrelief.

Steve Arterburn is no stranger to the Church of God. He’s offered us valuable insights on CBH ViewPoint, encouraged us at conferences, and skillfully blended humor and bold truth on the Church of God Convention platform in Anderson. We’re excited to announce that Steve will again bless the movement in 2016 for each of the three regional conventions. Continue reading
