AU to Host Lauren Winner for Truth, Faith and Service Series

Anderson University will host Dr. Lauren Winner, associate professor of Christian spirituality at Duke Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina, as part of the Truth, Faith and Service speaker series. The Truth, Faith and Service speaker series is designed to highlight ideas found in the official seal of Anderson University—Veritas (Truth), Fidelitas (Faith) and Utilitas (Service). The speaker series is a part of the year-long centennial celebration for Anderson University. Winner will deliver a special address on Friday, November 4, at 7 PM in York Performance Hall. I remember the gender wars of elementary school. As kids looking for validation of our worth, we guys would declare that we were the superior gender and, of course, the girls would make the same claim. We’d argue back and forth, but I don’t remember anyone ever winning. The arguments led to tension, but not to resolution. By the time we got into middle school or high school, we readily abandoned those arguments. But that doesn’t mean that gender bias went away. Continue reading

A.D. 2015: Oklahoma Church Makes 2015 the Year of Jesus

Old history textbooks are full of two letters that appear together with every recorded date since Jesus walked the earth. A.D., which stands for the Latin term anno Domini, translates as the year of our Lord. While the Church of God seeks to advance the message that Jesus is the subject, Pastor Steve Chiles of Shartel Church of God in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, got to thinking about what might happen if his congregation truly made 2015 the year of Jesus.
