Convention 2019 to Honor Heroes, Launch Leaders

Jeff Jenness | Paul Maxfield

By Carl Stagner

With the retirement of Servant Solutions’ Jeff Jenness and Children of Promise’s Paul Maxfield later this year, Convention 2019 will again be an opportunity to celebrate the past. With the selection of new leaders to carry on the mantles of these ministries, and with the commissioning of missionaries Nate and Stacy Tatman, Convention 2019 will also celebrate even more indications of bright future for the Church of God. Special moments you won’t want to miss have been set aside on the Convention 2019 and General Assembly schedule to mark these milestones. Continue reading

Culinary Craftsmanship and Christ: A Columbus Caterer’s Calling

Michael Mayfield and team at First Church of God.

By Carl Stagner

Those who attended the Regional Convention in Columbus, Ohio, in June came for connection and conversation, for worship and the Word. Others came for resources, and for reunion with friends and family. Few came expecting to tickle their taste buds, but for those who experienced the culinary craftsmanship of the catering at First Church of God, that’s exactly what they did. While the desserts and dishes at convention meals and receptions were a delicious delight, the sweet spirit of Michael Mayfield and his team is what left convention-goers most impressed. Join Us in Wichita, Celebrate Movement’s International Reach

Photo: Missionary commissioning prayer in Philadelphia last year.

The Church of God is so much bigger than most of us can imagine. With nearly 900,000 believers around the world, attending nearly 8,000 churches in 89 different countries, the international reach of the Church of God is both broad and diverse. It can be hard to visualize the magnitude of that which God has allowed us to be a part, especially when our only consistent interface with the movement is from fifth pew back, piano side, once or twice a week. One of the best things about the Church of God Convention is the opportunity to see, hear, and participate in what God is doing outside our regular sphere of ministry. Church of God Convention 2017 will once again celebrate the international reach of our movement during worship gatherings and extra events. Continue reading

September is upon us, and so is the third-and-final 2016 Regional Convention of the Church of God. These historic gatherings have brought us to new places, fostered new relationships, and sparked new energy and excitement in the movement. Many who have never attended a convention in Anderson due to distance have seen or will see the experience brought to their own backyards. As New Covenant Church of God prepares to welcome the Church of God to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, convention-goers are making arrangements to arrive early and take advantage of several bonus events and activities slated to make a great experience even better. It’s beginning to look a lot like convention time in Indiana again. As the season of summer approaches, the corn and soybeans have sprouted, squirrels are scurrying across the Anderson University campus, and Madison Park Church of God is making final preparation to host the second of three Regional Conventions this year. You’ve already heard that Milton Grannum, Reggie McNeal, Steve Arterburn, Arnetta McNeese Bailey, and Ben Hardman will speak to the convention theme of Reclaim Your Neighbor[hood], and you know that Alanna Story will serve as worship leaders. But did you know that a variety of special gatherings, receptions, and opportunities for additional fellowship are scheduled to take place in conjunction with the Anderson event? From alumni luncheons to agency open houses, you’ll want to plan ahead to make the most of your Reclaim 2016 experience. Continue reading

Church of God Convention 2015—Royals, Knights, Evangels, and Ravens welcome! Of course, all others are welcome, too! We simply want alumni of Warner University, Warner Pacific College, Mid-America Christian University, and Anderson University to be aware of the celebrations, receptions, and other opportunities your alma mater is bringing to this year’s convention. Even if you didn’t attend one of these Church of God schools, some of these events still apply to you! But most of these events also require RSVP by Monday, June 1. Continue reading

CHOG Convention 2014: Reunions, Receptions, and Refreshments

Behind the lights, sound, big-name speakers, and programming of the Church of God Convention 2014, is a family. When Church of God people gather together from coast to coast, inevitably some saint will address another as sister or brother. Even Bill Gaither recognized the family nature of the church in his classic “Family of God” tune. When the Church of God plans a convention, it’s impossible for the family members not to mingle, reacquaint, and make special connections based on shared experiences. Thus, there is now a list* of reunions, receptions, and times of refreshment (and refreshments!). Continue reading
