Though dance appears twenty or so times in the Bible, and usually in the context of worship, it’s encountered some resistance in the church over the years. Certainly dance, like other artistic expressions, can be used in ways that bring dishonor to the Lord. But like so many Church of God congregations today, First Church of God in Paragould, Arkansas, has found a way to reclaim what hell has stolen. How a Growing Nontraditional Traditional Church Plant Began in Arkansas

They have no formal training in church planting, but they’ve planted a church. Their worship and ministry style is neither flashy nor trendy, yet they’ve attracted a crowd. There was no market research conducted before their launch service, yet they’re already making disciples. Kevin and Danielle Edgar recently returned to a community they knew and loved, and simply began preaching the Word of God, singing a few gospel songs and hymns, and building friendships. Faith Fellowship Church of God is a growing, nontraditional, traditional church plant in Paragould, Arkansas. They may be doing things differently, but they’re certainly getting things done, and the results are both God-glorifying and hell-shaking. Continue reading

A Voice for the Voiceless: Protecting Infants, Reclaiming Drug-Dependent Mothers for Christ

A newborn gasps for a breath of air, but can’t seem to get enough. While tremors and tics disturb her gaunt, fragile form, cries emanating from her weakened lungs simply cannot be consoled. Painful diarrhea and difficulty eating add to a long list of symptoms that plague this helpless one made in the image of God. Something is wrong. Something is very, very wrong. No baby should ever come into this world dependent on the drugs of her mother’s addiction. Yet, the mother doesn’t need more shame and guilt. So in Paragould, Arkansas, the House of Virtue has stepped in to love these mothers and their infants with the love of Christ—and put a serious dent in drug dependency. Continue reading
