The pastor must not be a person who simply presides as a benevolent, kindly referee over a multitude of squabbling children.

The pastor must lead! He or she must develop firmness with love but must sense where the Spirit is leading and then call upon the saints to follow. The pastor must be both prophet to proclaim the will of God and overseer to coordinate all aspects of the church’s life and to channel its varied energies toward the accomplishment of God’s purposes. National Association Camp Meeting to Celebrate 100 Years

By Carl Stagner

For one hundred years, Zion’s Hill at West Middlesex, Pennsylvania, has been the location of a camp meeting that has made an indelible mark on thousands of Church of God men and women. The National Association, which began in 1916 as a ministry largely focused on many African Americans who, at the time, were relocating northward from southern states. Driven to live out the unity that the Church of God preached, the National Association continued to grow in number and influence on the movement. From the earliest days, Zion’s Hill has welcomed all people, regardless of ethnicity or background, onto these hallowed grounds. The August 7–14 event is expected to draw record crowds and feature some of the finest preaching and worship in the Church of God. To celebrate their centennial, several special experiences and artistic components are being added to the schedule. Continue reading

FloodStockPhoto_Morguefile_ FORWEB

Torrential rains have brought severe flooding to the Carolinas, claiming the lives of fourteen people. Nearly two hundred water rescues were reported in South Carolina alone, and some eight hundred residents were displaced to due rising floods. Damage estimates in the wake of what has been described as a “thousand-year storm” are in the billions of dollars. Over the first five days of October, some locales received an unprecedented twenty inches of rain. Though the rains have now moved out, flooding poses an ongoing threat—meteorologists suggest it may take two weeks for rivers to crest. Through the Disaster Relief Committee, the Church of God is responding to this disaster. Continue reading
