Pakistan: Educators Celebrate Pastors, Invest in Leadership Development

Earlier this year, we brought you the story of “Facebook Seminary”—an innovative, online approach to providing quality education to pastors-in-training in Pakistan. Every Saturday evening during their semester, they gather around a screen to learn under the teaching of Anderson University adjunct professor, Dr. Sarah Blake LaRose. The George Theological College in Karachi, Pakistan, originally hoped that a theological professor from the United States could actually come and teach for at least a year, but the costs were prohibitive. Thus, the Facebook idea was born. Sarah has now taught the Pakistani students for three semesters using the free video option of Facebook Messenger. Continue reading

Timothy Clarke, Melissa Pratt Among AU Commencement Honorees

Anderson University will honor distinguished alumni and friends on campus when it celebrates its 100th commencement on Saturday, May 5. Bishop Timothy J. Clarke will serve as the commencement speaker and will receive an honorary doctorate of divinity. Bishop Clarke is the senior pastor of First Church of God in Columbus, Ohio. Clarke has served in several leadership capacities with the National Association of the Church of God, on the boards of various community and political organizations, and is the author of seven books. He will also assume the role of chairman of the General Assembly on July 1. Continue reading

April showers bring May flowers, but semesters of hard work and showers of blessing from above bring May graduations at the universities and college of the Church of God. Mid-America Christian University (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) and Warner University (Lake Wales, Florida) held their commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 2. On Saturday, May 9, commencement ceremonies will take place at Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon, as well as Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. From Children of Poverty to Children of Promise

Poverty couldn’t stop her. Polio couldn’t hold her back. Preconceived notions of what women can and cannot do in society failed to suppress her spirit. Promise—on the other hand—promise of God’s love and hope for a bright future kept her going. Like all who fall under the watchful care and commitment of the Church of God child sponsorship ministry, Agnes Manahe found herself staring opportunity in the face. Oklahoma City, OK— Oklahoma Fifth District Congressman James Lankford will deliver the commencement address to 414 graduates of Mid-America Christian University (MACU.edu) Saturday, May 3, 2014.

Dr. John Fozard, university president, will preside over the occasion with musical guest Rev. Don Peslis performing special music during the ceremony. Peslis attended MACU when the school was located in Houston, Texas, and he is an associate pastor at Crossings. Continue reading

Anderson University recently announced that Susan Ellspermann, Lieutenant Governor of Indiana, will address the graduating class of 2014 during commencement exercises on Saturday, May 10. The 3:00 PM EDT program will be conducted in the Ward Fieldhouse of the Kardatzke Wellness Center. Speaking during Anderson University’s baccalaureate service will be Dr. David Markle, senior pastor of Park Place Church of God in Anderson, Ind. Anderson University recently announced that Emmy award-winning Indianapolis television news anchor, Andrea Morehead, will address the graduating class of 2013 during commencement exercises on Saturday, May 11. The 3 p.m. EDT program will be conducted in the Ward Fieldhouse of the Kardatzke Wellness Center. Speaking during Anderson University’s baccalaureate service will be Dr. Fredrick Shively, retiring professor of religion and director of ministry education at AU.
