Weightlifting and the Word: MO Pastor Memorizes Scripture, Lifts 300 Lbs.

Pastor Aaron Holman of First Church of God in Thayer, Missouri, is starting a new workout regimen for both his body and his spirit. His workout routine involves lifting a barbell off the ground to the level of the hips, or “deadlifting,” 300 pounds in the gym located in the carport next to his home. In between sets of lifting, he exercises his mind and spirit by memorizing passages of the Bible. Four weeks ago, Pastor Holman finished memorizing Ephesians. “Peace be with you.” Peace may be a little word, but there is no word more freeing. Every morning, we burden ourselves with the weight of the world like the mythical Atlas. We would look for peace in the chaos of a busy life if we only had the time. Yet some of the most peaceful moments in life are when we are still—resting in the knowledge that the Lord is God.
