A Tribute to Dwight L. Dye

Dwight L. Dye

By Carl Stagner

Christians Broadcasting Hope makes it possible for the hope of Jesus to be heard in Arabic, Creole, English, French, Portuguese, Hindi and Odia, Spanish, and Swahili. Today the Church of God owes a debt of gratitude to Dwight L. Dye, for it was under his executive leadership of CBH from 1984 to 1995 that the ministry swelled to include a total of eight different languages among its broadcasts. Dwight’s global reach was matched only by his local impact, though, through his service as a highly influential pastor of Church of God congregations in Oklahoma and Indiana. Though he passed away this year, his legacy of love calls us to exhibit Christ in like manner—whether over the airwaves, online, or face to face. Continue reading

No, it’s not a floor product company. Yes, it’s a group for moms with small children that meets in local host churches to teach and encourage women—literally all around the world. Many Church of God congregations are discovering the power of the ministry to reach new families in their community. Continue reading

Pastors in the Church of God know how instrumental Servant Solutions has been to their ministry. From pensions to financial planning to ministerial tax information and investments, the staff have always been about “serving those who serve.” Only one, however, has been faithful to this task for forty-one years. Doug Hamlin has given oversight to the accounting process and daily operations of Servant Solutions—formerly the Board of Pensions—since 1975. For exemplary servant leadership over a remarkable career of ministry to ministers, the retiring Doug Hamlin was honored with a ceremony at Madison Park Church of God on the concluding evening of the three-day Anderson Regional Convention and CHOG Table experience. God’s timing is always perfect. Even when we do not understand it at the time, it is always perfect. Even halfway around the world (as I am as I write this in Côte d’Ivoire), it is always perfect.

Over a year ago, our missionaries Larry and LeAnn Sellers invited me to return to Côte d’Ivoire to teach another group of Ivorian Pastors at the West Africa Bible Institute. Our partnership with the Ivorian church has grown extensively over the last eighteen years. People and pastors from East Side Church of God have provided work camps, funding, and teaching. Pastors from Côte d’Ivoire have visited East Side on three occasions over the last decade. My returning to teach a class this September was simply another link in the chain that connects our congregation to the congregations of this West African nation. But God had other plans, perfect plans with incredible timing. Continue reading
