Making Waves in South Dakota: Radio Reaches Across Reservation

In the midst of despair caused by grief, illness, joblessness and substance abuse, God is making waves in Allen, South Dakota—radio waves, to be exact.

Since CHOGnews last spoke to missionaries Tim and Kim Wardell in February 2017, the pastors have witnessed the incredible love of God at work on the Pine Ridge Reservation in the Oglala Lakota Nation. Before the end of 2017, the pastors prayed for direction regarding how Pass Creek Mission could serve God in the coming year. In response, Tim received a vision for a radio ministry that would reach listeners on the reservation and beyond. However, without necessary equipment, the Wardells were left to question how such an extraordinary idea could become a reality. Soon after receiving the vision, Tim was inexplicably inspired to attend a meeting in Pine Ridge; once there, he would realize why. Continue reading

Behind the Microphone: An Inside Look at CBH ViewPoint

Over the course of several decades, Jim Lyon has become more and more familiar to the Church of God. Though he started a career in politics, Jim felt and accepted called to serve in ministry, one which he has been fulfilling in various ways since. For more than twenty years he served as senior pastor for Madison Park Church of God, located in Anderson, Indiana. After a few years, he took on the role of speaker/host for the CBH English broadcast, ViewPoint. In 2013, he stepped up to fulfil the role of general director for Church of God Ministries. When asked how he fulfilled this role, what it’s like behind the scenes of making this broadcast, and how he is reaching people across the world, Jim gave insightful and wise answers, answers that reflected the calling he has been fulfilling for the majority of his life. Radio Ministry Celebrates 70 Years of Broadcasting Hope

In 1947, an Anderson College student named Richard Lee Meischke, who had an interest in radio, conceived the idea of a nationally distributed radio broadcast about the Church of God. This idea, followed up by conversations with a talented preacher at Anderson’s Park Place Church of God, Dr. Dale Oldham, and the Board of Church Extension and Home Missions, led to the launch what would be known as Christian Brotherhood Hour in January of 1947. Using the sanctuary of Park Place Church, they began producing programs, with Dr. Oldham acting as host and speaker. Their slogan would be, “A united Church for a divided world.” Continue reading

We do our best to keep you informed of news of those having had far-reaching impact, and regret that we cannot cover every case. On May 11, one of our former CBH speakers passed away. The Church of God will never forget the recognizable voice and personality of J. David Grubbs, whose life we honor today.
