Warner University Reintroduces Greek, Enhances Study of God’s Word

A student studies Greek.

By Tim Dwyer

After a hiatus of several years, Warner University ministry students are tackling Greek once again, preparing themselves to study the New Testament in its original language in depth and in detail. The fall semester began with a bad case of “Greekophobia” for our ministry students—a fear of that ancient language, of how hard it would be, and what it would do to their grades. After eleven weeks, that fear has passed away! Continue reading

The Truth When Jesus is the Subject

There are any number of places in Scripture one may cite to support the current theme of our Movement—Jesus is the subject! Here are a few:

In John 5:39, Jesus said to the Jewish leaders who wanted to kill him, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.”

Paul explicitly emphasized the centrality of Jesus in his letters. 1 Corinthians 1:23, “…but we preach Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:5, “For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord.” Galatians 1:16, “I…preach Him [Jesus] among the Gentiles.” Philippians 1:18, “…Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.” Continue reading

For more than twenty years Dr. Otto F. Linn served Warner Pacific College as professor and academic dean. His path-breaking career spanned the Great Depression and the Space Age.

He introduced his church to the academic study of the Bible, inviting criticism from powerful traditionalists. But Linn was convinced that the church’s ministers should not let others do their thinking for them. His personal faith merged scholarship with warm-hearted piety, providing for his students and church ministers alike, a splendid example of the blend of academy and church.

On Thursday, September 18, at 7 PM, learn more about this monumental figure in the Church of God and Warner Pacific College at a free evening lecture with Dr. Merle Strege, president of the Church of God Historical Society. Continue reading
