Alvin Young was a Baptist, but she was a part of the Church of God. Fueled by close proximity as neighbors in the North Carolina countryside near the town of Hickory, Alvin’s interest in her meant he would soon be attending the Church of God, too. The shift wasn’t hard for Alvin, though, for besides his love interest eclipsing denominational differences, he found the teachings of the Church of God to be more consistent with Scripture. Marriage soon secured their relationship with each other and the Church of God, but could do very little to secure their finances. While making a measly $1.15 an hour and doing his best to support a growing family, Alvin Young received a call to ministry. Continue reading

When fire destroyed the boys’ dormitory at Aldersgate Education Center on August 29, the Church of God in Tanzania faced a pretty serious test. Would the church and the school resolve to respond undeterred from the upward path they were on, or would the effect of the blow require extensive recovery? Your generous support following the tragedy, combined with emergency funds sent immediately from Global Strategy, provided the relief that was needed right away. But the Church of God in Tanzania rose to the occasion with haste and dignity that reflected a people growing in number, spiritual maturity, and sustainability. When the Church of God regional coordinators convened in Tanzania for their annual January meetings, those present were afforded a firsthand opportunity to witness the fruit of seeds planted over generations by both missionaries and indigenous leaders. Thank you, Church of God. Your generous support of CHOG TraffickLight is not only rescuing women and children from the horrors of human trafficking, but is also preventing trafficking from happening in the first place. You’ve heard the stories of how the Shelter in Cuttack, India, has nurtured, protected, and discipled girls with otherwise uncertain futures. No one will ever know for sure where each girl would be today had they not found refuge and unconditional love at the Shelter, but one thing is certain: these girls did not end up as victims of human trafficking. Thanks to your support, the Shelter is now celebrating major improvements designed to enhance security, bless the girls with better living conditions and, as capacity increases, welcome more girls. As we are challenged to Be Bold at the convention of the Church of God in Oklahoma City this year, we are also challenged to look outside ourselves and reclaim what hell has stolen. Since the late 1880s, the Church of God movement has been reaching out beyond the borders of the United States and Canada, resulting in a church body outside those geographic borders that is more than three times as large as the Church of God in the United States and Canada. Continue reading

“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
This African proverb has resonated with me since first reading it some time ago. I’ve tried to apply its wisdom in whatever ministry God had me. At Church of God Ministries, we are striving to assemble the most effective team possible to change the world and help people understand that Jesus is the subject. Continue reading

Church of God Ministries (CGM) has named Ben Shular as the new director of international ministries.
“Our world is larger than it has even been, and yet smaller and more reachable at the same time,” Ben explains. “Our focus must not only be in making disciples of all nations, but disciples empowered to replicate themselves. We can’t emphasize just building church bodies in other countries, but empowering nationals to make churches in their own countries and of their own culture. Jim Lyon has a heart to serve the church at great personal sacrifice, and give it a vision to own. I feel led to be a part of what is going to happen in the movement today under Jim. International ministries will strive to be a valuable commodity for individual congregations and their members in outreach ministry.” Continue reading
