Warner University’s students, faculty, and staff will enjoy a day off from classes and work to come together to volunteer in the Lake Wales, Florida, community on April 6 for the fourth annual Warner Cares Day. “It’s our opportunity to bring Warner to the community where we can have an impact,” said assistant to the president and SACS liaison, Dr. James Moyer. “It’s our calling as a school to serve, and this day allows us, as faculty, to lead by example.”

Warner Cares Day will take place from 8:30 AM to 1 PM, with the volunteers partaking in a variety of projects around the community, including planting trees at the soccer complex and little league fields, painting the police department lockup, cleaning up the cemetery, washing cars, and much more.

“Last year my group painted a gazebo for the Lake Wales parks department,” said Warner University coordinator of distance library services, Amy Beatty. “It felt great to contribute to the community.” Beatty was part of the eighty five to ninety faculty members to participate that year.

The idea for Warner Cares Day began four years ago from a simple motivation to serve. Warner contacted the Lake Wales Care Center and several needed projects were assigned for the faculty and staff, thus forming the Warner Cares Day name by combining Warner with Care Center.

The endeavor expanded beyond serving the Care Center alone. It has now included the city and has been about serving and making a difference in the community as a whole. Even the mayor and city manager will be joining President Hall for the opening of the event. And this time around, the students will be participating, as well.

“As faculty, we want our students to develop leadership skills and realize that as leaders we are called to serve,” said Moyer.

The students have already saved the date and are looking forward to this day.

“I’m excited for this opportunity to give back to the city and use our abilities to bless the lives of others,” said Warner University sophomore, Kristi Isabelle. “It will be a great experience we get to share with our school.”
