How much do you know about what goes on inside the office at Church of God Ministries? Who conducts necessary office work so others may travel the world with the hope of Christ? It’s the behind-the-scenes work that enables Church of God Ministries to carry out the work of Christ. When you support the unrestricted portion of the World Ministries Budget, you support our missionaries, our projects at home and abroad, and so much more. In the following interview, get to know one of the faces behind the scenes. Her name is Cheryl Elff, and your support of the “basic budget” makes her vital ministry possible.

How long have you worked for Church of God Ministries, and what is your role?

I have worked for Church of God Ministries for three years. I am the executive assistant to the chief operating officer, Daniel Kartchner. Operations is a forward-moving department, and each day brings new tasks and projects. I am excited to see the technology we are using. I enjoy the variety my position allows, and being able to serve others.

How does your role at Church of God Ministries fit into the overall picture of the organization?

Operations provides leadership and vision necessary to ensure Church of God Ministries has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to grow the organization, and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency. A large part of my responsibilities is customer-related, both within our offices and outside. I juggle calendars, meetings, reports, projects, and research—among my responsibilities. As Daniel is often the “base camp” executive on duty, he and I interact with all the departments daily. I strive to enhance the effectiveness of the chief operating officer and to represent him well. I try to focus on how my work will help advance the kingdom.

Please briefly describe your journey of faith.

I grew up in the church, but didn’t understand what it was to have a personal relationship with God until I was an adult in my 30s. I was invited to attend Trinity Wesleyan Church in Indianapolis, and it was there that I heard God calling me to grow closer to him. I worked for the Wesleyan Church World Headquarters for many years, and when my job ended there, I came to Church of God Ministries. I have been blessed many times over with Church of God Ministries. What I appreciate most about the Church of God is its rich history. I appreciate that we are moving forward in making a difference in the world by touching lives and building relationships.

When you’re not at the office, what do you like to do?

I always enjoy time with my family. Ron and I live in Fishers, Indiana, and have two grown sons who live in Indianapolis. We also have family in nearby states. I’ve recently begun knitting. I am active at my local church and enjoy the outreach programs we have within our community.

What are one or two of your favorite worship songs or hymns? What is one of your favorite scriptures?

“It is Well With My Soul.” “Oceans” (Hillsong United). “Revelation Song” (Kari Jobe).

Philippians 4:8—“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (ESV).
