“Love your neighbor as yourself.” —Jesus (Matt 22:39)
Let’s go big! Let’s go global!
What would happen if, on the same day all around the planet, every congregation of the Church of God united as a wave of Christ’s love to touch people in their own local communities? What would happen, if on that day, every man, woman, youth, and child in the Church of God stepped into their community to live out the Great Commandment? What would happen if we united in spirit and action to penetrate our communities with the extreme love of Jesus Christ by meeting a need?
On October 5, 2013, you can catch the wave of extreme love by uniting as the Church of God for Global Service Day. Pastors and lay leaders are encouraged to engage in an activity that is relevant to the particular needs of their local community so that the extreme love of Jesus can be seen, felt, and heard in meaningful ways.
What does this look like? It will be as varied as communities are unique. Some might participate in community food kitchens to feed the hungry. Some might participate in service projects to clean up their community. Some might target nursing homes to bring cheer by visiting those who are shut in. Some might go to Laundromats and place quarters in the machines of those who have come to do their laundry. The list is endless as to what a congregation or an individual might do. The important thing is that we all rise up and communicate God’s love to our neighbors through acts of love. More service ideas can be accessed at www.chog.org/extreme-love.
And don’t miss the Global Service Day website, www.globalserviceday.com. This website displays a map of the world and indicates the locations of churches and individuals who are planning to show the love of Jesus in their community. Place your mark on the map by filling out the registration for yourself, or if you are a congregation leader, you can register your church. If you want quick access to information on catching this wave, simply text GSD13 to 95577.
The Global Service Day video will inspire you into action! You can access it easily on YouTube and share it with others.
People of every nation, tribe, and tongue are called to rise up and communicate the love of Jesus Christ. Let us send a tidal wave of his love across the planet. Let’s catch the wave!
