As we celebrate our connection as brothers and sisters in Christ around the globe at the 2013 Global Gathering, we are also taking time to celebrate and honor a legacy of excellence in leadership, with the retirement of Dr. Ronald V. Duncan, general director of Church of God Ministries. Dr. Duncan has played a pivotal role in bringing this Gathering into being; as he greets delegates and meets with those who have traveled miles to take part, he is pleased with how the church is connecting.
The Global Gathering is a major springboard for the kind of connection the Church of God needs among our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world. “There have been many conversations that I have observed that are happening between [national] leaders. They are taking notes. They are exchanging email contacts. They are creating relationships, and that was part of our vision for the Global Gathering.”
While this Gathering marks an important beginning for the Church of God, it is one of the last major events that will be held in Dr. Duncan’s twelve-year tenure as general director. He will leave the office of general director on August 4, 2013. Celebrations with staff, colleagues, family, and friends begin after the Global Gathering, including a reception for the General Assembly on Wednesday, June 26, at Noon, and a dinner at East Side Church of God at 6:00 that evening.
When asked what he hopes this event will have meant to the delegates, Duncan answered, “I hope they get inspired and encouraged in their work and that they feel like family and sense the support of their brothers and sisters around the world.”
